On 21st February, Halesowen Day Nursery Ltd was
awarded the Investors in People Quality Standard.

The 2 Halesowen Day Nursery LTD full day of Interviewing provided by the West Midlands Quality Centre went very well and we all enjoyed a good confidence boost, as the assessor praised us all unreservedly.

Becoming recognised is a significant achievement for any organisation and all of its people. It measures the effectiveness of the practices and procedures of the organisation and the people within it and is awarded for a period of three years.

Strengths:
‘ The organisation has a senior management team that
have the necessary knowledge, skills and capabilities to
lead and support the development of people. They are
skilled professionals who are well qualified to support the
development of people and provide internal coaching and
training’


‘The pastoral care of employees is a high priority within
the organisation and recognised by everyone during the
assessment. There is a strong awareness of the business
benefits of providing equality of opportunity and meeting
personal needs’


‘ The nursery has a loyal and very competent group of
employees who work as a team to continuously improve the
care and education they give to young children. The
workforce is happy, well motivated and understands the
need to work in partnership with parents to meet the
needs of children’

‘Communication is very effective, using formal and
informal mechanisms. There is dispersed leadership and
employees are empowered to act.’

‘ The Managing Director has developed a written business
plan that contains measurable objectives’
‘ A training matrix has been developed that contains the
training and development needs of the nursery and the
competence levels of all employees’

‘Establishing and developing the role of Transitions
Officer has improved communication, helped to handle
the expectations of children, parents and employees’
‘Training and development meetings for managers are
ensuring that their team needs are met’
‘The practice of reviewing job descriptions during
appraisal process makes sure that everyone has a current
profile of their job’

‘Acknowledging the contribution that people make to the
success of the organisation on the website and in the
newsletter is to be commended. This makes people feel
that their contribution is valued.’
‘Ensure that everyone understands the capabilities required of
managers with regard to leading them and supporting their
development. Include the capabilities in the pre-appraisal
questionnaire that reviews management effectiveness’
‘Continue to review performance, the impact of training and
development on performance, and the effectiveness of
managers. Keep a record of improvements made as a result of
the reviews to demonstrate trends of improvements and how
evaluation has influenced future planning’

‘Involve all employees in developing the business plan. Confirm that people understand how they contribute to achieving the aims and objectives’

FINDINGS AGAINST THE STANDARD COMMITMENT
‘The managing Director has created an environment where
people are encouraged to continuously improve their own and
other people’s performance. A very competent team of nursery officers support the managing director. They all ensure that people receive any necessary development in order to improve performance at individual, team and organisational level. Written and verbal evidence of support was provided. Everyone believes that the management are committed to training and developing people and ensuring equality of opportunity. People feel valued, have a strong sense of identity and are proud of how they contribute to the success of the nursery’


PLANNING
The Managing Director has clearly defined aims and objectives. People have a strong sense of identity and work well together as a team with parents and other professionals to meet the needs of children.

ACTION
‘The Managing Director has ensured that managers understand what they need to do to support the development of People. Everyone praised the Managing Director and the managers for their support and pastoral care. Everyone could give examples of what they had learned from their development activities and what they were expected to do as a result’

‘The assessor is pleased to confirm that there are no actions
required to meet the standard following this successful
assessment visit’
