Halesowen Day Nursery is a warm, caring, family orientated, professionally run Early Years Setting, providing full daycare, play and education for babies and young children from 6 weeks to school age. We are a well-established home-from-home early years setting, situated in a prime location for all major commuting routes. The Nursery was opened in 1993 by my mother and has gone from strength to strength ever since.
The children here thrive with the love, comfort, relationships and education that we happily provide. Our clear vision, mission and values (see home page) means that our entire team has a shared focus, which gives us a strong setting-wide ethos, ensuring consistency throughout nursery for children and their families.
We are registered with Ofsted, have strong partnerships with the local Early Years Team, good relationships with many local schools and community groups and have a keen interest in the Reggio Emilia Approach to early years care and education.
We are a very reflective nursery who are always moving forward with a focus on the best interests of the children. We have numerous working policies & procedures which are available to you upon request and can be accessed in the parent’s section of our website.
I, Sarah Walker am the Owner and Managing Director of Halesowen Day Nursery. I am a qualified Teacher with an advanced diploma in Child Psychotherapy. I am complemented by a strong, passionate team of lead practitioners and a group of fully qualified Early Years Educators. We refer to all of our team as "teachers" because we passionately believe that that's what they are - every interaction teaches a child something, whether that be something about themselves or something about the world in which they live. We are also very blessed to have a Nursery Development Officer who's role it is to support the staff team in their responsibilities and professional development and to work closely with the management team, supporting them with the development of the nursery environment and the curriculum.
We pride ourselves on providing a happy, safe, enjoyable and healthy environment for all children and their families, where trusting relationships are built and maintained with each other. We advocate a "working together" ethos to ensure the safeguarding of children is paramount. We are part of Dudley's Good and Outstanding Network, the Halesowen Township Network and Dudley's Go for Green Project, all promoting and sharing excellent practice within the Borough.
All children are treated equally and respected as individuals with voices and opinions that are valued and listened to. Children have opportunities to learn about a variety of cultures, celebrations, abilities and genders.
We take part in a variety of charity projects which the children are always involved in. This gives them a deeper understanding of the world and their ability to impact it in a positive way. Through this work, they are encouraged to be empathetic, compassionate and responsible as they grow.
We place great emphasis on fostering positive Christian values and attitudes. HDN has strong links with a local church (Hasbury Christian Fellowship) who regularly visit with puppet shows and stories for the children.
Parents are seen and valued as the first educators of their children and we acknowledge the importance of including them in nursery life and having consistency between nursery and home as much as possible. We operate a general 'open door' policy to promote positive relationships and communications. We also offer stay & play sessions, parent evenings, social & family events and parent workshops to support our strong parent partnerships.
Enrolling your child - please feel free to browse the website, phone and ask questions and book a visit for you and your child to look around. An Enrolment Form & a £50.00 Commitment Fee will secure your place.
Settling in - Here at HDN we know and understand the value of a happy and well supported transition period. Once enrolled, we ask you to attend a welcome meeting where you can share with us all that we need to know about your child before they start (SEND support and care plans can be instigated and implemented at this point if applicable). We then offer a three-stage settling in process, free of charge: Firstly, there is an allocated time for you to come and pay with your child at nursery, allowing it to become a place where your child feels you are comfortable too and somewhere familiar that you have played together. Secondly, we offer a time for your child to play alone in their new playroom while you stay on site, and finally there is a longer session where you can leave your child at nursery for a trial session. This is also supported by a welcome pack telling you and your child all you need to know about our wonderful nursery and the particular playroom they will be starting in.
